The school run just got a little more exciting thanks to a pair of M-badged SUVs from BMW. The new X5 M and X6 M come with more speed, more power, more gizmos and more, well, everything than their predecessors.
Both come with 567bhp 4.4 lite V8s capable of taking you from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, and both now push out 53 more torques than their predecessors. All of which means you’ll have an edge when it comes to finding a prime parking spot during the morning drop-off rush.

Things have also been tweaked on the suspension front, including a modified upper wishbone which BMW says will enable you to scream around corners even faster (and increase the already stellar reputation of BMW drivers everywhere).
In fact, if the Munich-based marque is to be believed, the only thing the X5 M and X6 M do less of is consume carbon. Combined CO2 emissions for the two vehicles are down 20% on their predecessors, the car maker says.
Inside, there’s all sorts of “M” branded equipment, including the instrument cluster, leather steering wheel with aluminium gearshift paddles and M gearshift lever, electrically operated sports seats for the driver and front passenger, a driverâ€
By now, anyone wanting to some serious off-roading will know to steer well clear of BMW’s X range. It should hardly be surprising then that BMW is pretty open about the fact that these two beasts were designed for the road and the road only.
Both cars will make their debut at the LA Auto Show next month.
