Ford wants to redefine aerodynamics with this stunner GT [gallery]

Ford has finally unleashed its third iteration of supercars at the Detroit Motor Show — the new GT.

Apart from promising over 600 horsepower, the Ford GT’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 is said to be the most powerful EcoBoost engine ever. It’s based on the Ford IMSA Daytona Prototype‘s architecture.

Ford promises the best power-to-weight ratio, having made the car almost entirely out of carbon fibre.

Moreover, as you can see below, the aerodynamics of the vehicle has been one of the most looked-after design points, with every slope and shape examined to minimize drag and optimise downforce.

“The GT is the ultimate execution of an enthusiast supercar,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “GT includes innovations and technologies that can be applied broadly across Fordâ€s future product portfolio – another proof point that Ford continues raising the performance bar while ultimately improving vehicles for all of our customers.”

The supercar will be available late 2016, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Ford GT race cars.
