Lamborghini never quite enjoyed doing subtle. It never has done it well either. In the past, its toned-down cars were rubbish, slow and unreliable, but some of its most memorable works were bonkers. That’s thankfully continuing.
Just before the annual Pebble Beach soiree (or the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elégance if you want to be prim and proper) at The Quail Motorsports Gathering in California, Lamborghini announced a truly beautiful open-top supercar with quite a bit of a name: Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce.

It’s long, sure, but it’s quite significant. It’s the first car in the company’s history to not boast a permanent roof and wear its “closer to the track than most” Superveloce moniker. That means the company’s pretty damn confident it can make a racetrack-worthy purebred that you can still park on a beachfront somewhere.
There’s 750-horsepower available from the V12 6.2-litre engine, and that’s pushing along just 1575kg. Remember, this car does feature a foldable hardtop roof too. It should be a slob, but it’s definitely nowhere near that.
“The Roadster version represents our commitment to satisfying our passionate clients with immensely emotional driving dynamics combined with an extraordinary open air experience,” noted Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini.
Only 500 of these cars will be made, and while that sounds like many, remember that this is about as collectable as cars can get. There’s no price tag looped around its shapely rear view mirrors, but we’d say a lot, lot more than the standard Aventador, which is itself fetches a cool US$400 000.
