Kenseth wrecks Logano as Rosberg holds off Hamilton: the motorsport roundup

It was perhaps a weekend of paybacks, at least in Formula 1 and NASCAR, and that’s putting it lightly.

With the Eliminator Round heading to Martinsville and the Mexican GP taking place at the revised Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, sparks were set to fly.

Here’s how it all went down.

1. Formula 1: Rosberg finally outwits Hamilton at Mexican GP

Finally, finally finally. Rosberg took pole and converted it into a win around the Mexico City track, giving him his first victory since June.

It seems the revised track is incredibly difficult to pass on, which means that Rosberg could happily keep his teammate behind. Bottas finished second, and a stellar job from Kvyat saw him finish fourth.

Homecrowd hero Perez finished in eighth.

2. NASCAR Sprint Cup: Jeff Gordon wins at Martinsville for the 9th time

Jeff Gordon’s rolling back the years in his final year of Stock Car racing, after claiming the Grandfather Clock around Martinsville Speedway for the ninth time. It’s quite an incredible record. He kept his nose clean and out of danger, and that’s more than we can say for some other drivers in the Chase.

He’ll now contest for the NASCAR Sprint Cup crown at Homestead alongside three other drivers. The next two Eliminator rounds will take place at Texas and Phoenix.

3. NASCAR Sprint Cup: Logano, Kenseth incident is fast becoming NASCAR’s version of Rossi/Marquez

Everyone’s talking about Rossi and Marquez’s Sepang spat, but what about Logano and Kenseth? After Logano wrecked his buddy at the previous race, Kenseth gave Logano a dose of his own medicine. But was it dangerous?

Let us know what you think.

4. WTCC: Pechito Lopez defends World Touring Car Championship title

Jose Maria Lopez is now a double WTCC Champion after wrapping up the title with his ninth victory of the season in Thailand. The Argentine has now racked up an impressive 20 victories since his debut in 2013, and should definitely go down as one of the best touring car drivers of the modern era.

Sebastien Loeb now lies second in the Championship, but has yet to secure that position.
