You can now rent BMW i3 from Europcar in Cape Town

Want to go for the cutting-edge car rental? Or maybe you just want the environmentally responsible car during your business trip. Either way, Europcar now offers the BMW i3 at Cape Town International Airport.

It’s not the first time that the vehicle has been offered by a car rental service in South Africa, but Avis only offered the BMW i3 as part of its chauffeur service.

“We have introduced the fully-electric, 0% emissions BMW i3 to our fleet, with sustainability in mind and looking at future trends in mobility. The BMW i3 is a unique, cost effective and innovative vehicle option for our customers,” said Jody Naidoo, Divisional Fleet Procurement Executive for Europcar, in a BMW SA press statement.

The BMW i3 fleet available at Europcar features a range extender as well, giving it a range of up to 300 kilometres.

BMW i3 vehicles can now be rented (and actually driven) for the first time in South Africa

“Since the successful market launch of the BMW i brand in South Africa in March 2015, a total of 154 BMW i3s and 182 BMW i8s have been delivered to customers,” BMW SA added.

The move also comes a few months after BMW and Nissan launched joint charging stations across the country. These charging stations are compatible with the BMW i3/i8 and Nissan Leaf, but are also future-proof.

Looking to take advantage of the Europcar offer but aren’t sure about charging stations? You can find EV stations at the V&A Waterfront and BMW dealerships (namely Auric Auto Claremont, BMW SMG in Century City, Auto Atlantic BMW in the CBD and BMW Motorrad Donford).
