New BMW 7-Series has massive nose, remains gawkingly good looking

2020 BMW 7 Series south africa

BMW’s most iconic feature is that dual kidney-style grille, correct? Well, the company’s designers in Munich have taken that design trait and enlarged it.

We mean really enlarged it.

The 2020 edition of the BMW 7-Series, like the X7 before it, will feature a 40% larger grille, which is also now a single piece of bodywork.

This is joined by a larger badge, a new front bumper with chrome inserts, and slimmer headlights with standard LEDs and optional Laserlight Selective Beams.

At the rear, there’s a full-length brakelight strip which runs above the license plate recess. Very retro-futuristic.

Internally, it’s all change too. There’s now an M760Li xDrive version, a new v8-based 750i xDrive variant (with 390kW), and three new diesel powertrains ranging from 195kW to 294kW incoming.

And in the cabin, BMW’s Live Cockpit system boasts a 12.3 inch instrument cluster alongside a 10.2 inch control dashboard. All this is powered by the company’s OS 7.0, and also features the company’s Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The 7-Series will be available in South Africa in Q2 2019, including the 740Li, 745Le xDrive, 750Li xDrive, M760Li xDrive and 730Ld variants.

Pricing info is not yet available.
