The Vivo has been an enormous success for Volkswagen South Africa. It is the country’s most popular car and being locally built, it also acts as a proud symbol of domestic automaking excellence.
For those first time buyers, or current owners seeking some individuality, Volkswagen has now announced a new Vivo derivative.

The Vivo Mswenko is due to go on sale in October. The car is an upgraded version of the range’s 1.4 Comfortline.
Few rivals brands understand the South African value car customer with the same clarity as Volkswagen. The Mswenko edition continues a proud tradition of localised Polo and Vivo products.

Priced at R246 900, the Mswenko sits between Vivo’s 1.4 Comfortline and 1.6 Highline variants.
Distinguishing it from other Vivos is a black roof finish, chromed exhaust tips, and 16-inch Portago-style alloy wheels.
Mswenko graphics decorate the lower section of these new Vivos’ front doors. The doors feature privacy glass, keeping you cooler in summer and your personal belongings shaded from view.
Inside, the car has blue seats and silver trim inserts. Meanwhile, infotainment is supported by Volkswagen’s App Connect technology.
Six speakers relay whatever media you choose to play. A leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift lever enhance the feeling of tactile quality.
There is no difference in the mechanical package between Mswenko and any other Vivo 1.4, with 63kW and 132Nm driving the front wheels via five-speed manual gearbox.
Volkswagen is offering its new Vivo in four colourways: Pure White, Reflex Silver, Limestone Grey and Reef Blue. All of these feature the contrasting black roof finish.
If the idea of Volkswagen’s German engineering in a value package appeals to you, but the principle of individuality grates against owning South Africa’s most popular car, the Mswenko is a wonderfully individualistic way to have the best of both.
