Grazia SA gets social media wrong, asks what makes a girl a slut

Slutwalk

The South African edition of fashion glossy magazine Grazia has caused outrage on social media after posting updates on Facebook and Twitter asking what it is that makes a girl a slut.

The full Facebook post reads:

“We’d like to hear from Grazia readers: What is it that makes a girl a slut? Is it the way she dresses? What she says? What she does? And with who?”

The responses to the post were more or less unanimous in their criticism:

The same post appeared on Twitter, resulting in similarly vociferous reactions:

It’s unclear exactly what the person behind the post was thinking. Given the tone and phrasing of the question, it seems unlikely that it was designed to provoke serious thought and commentary.

Grazia has now responded to the original post, although a lot of people didn’t seem to buy its explanation:

Grazia. Reconceptualising your "research question" won't save you. Either you're lying, or intentionally biased the original question. Sies.
