PS4 lands 15 November, hits SA 6 December for R6300
At Gamescom in Germany this week Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 is ready for launch 15 November in Canada and the US. Two weeks after, you’ll be able to get hold of it in European and Latin American stores as well. And then, to catch the Christmas crowds just in time, the PS4 will be at long last be available in South Africa 6 December.
In South Africa, the PS4 will go for around R6 300 (VAT included) which is much more than the US retail price of US$399. For those gaming on tight budgets, we saw earlier this week that the 12 GB model of the PS3 will now be sold for US$199 (R2 000) and it’s also been announced that the PlayStation Vita will retail for US$199 as well.
In South Africa, Ster Kinekor Entertainment CEO Mario Dos Santos said “the price point, although not officially set due to the uncertainty around the Rand exchange rate, is currently planned at an RRP of R 6299 including VAT and it will not be beyond this for launch.”
If you’re one of the lucky ones treating yourself to a PS4 this Christmas, you’ll be able to enjoy Twitch which was announced at Gamescom. Similar to something like Ustream, this social sharing feature lets you livestream your gameplay when you press the share button on the PS4 controller. Engadget quotes Matthew DiPietro from Twitch saying that “you can browse by game, by channel [and] we’re exploring ways to explore by genre.” This app will be available for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
