Google officially announces the Nexus 5

With leaks abound in the run up to its official reveal today, Google’s Nexus 5 is probably the company’s worst kept secret ever, but hey, it’s out. Officially.

Running on the sweetest version of Android yet — 4.4, better known as KitKat — the Nexus 5, developed by LG is the “slimmest and fastest” Nexus phone Google has ever presided over.

There’s is 5” full HD display onboard, and data transfer is zippy thanks to 4G/LTE and ultra fast WiFi. Google’s latest boasts a camera with optical image stabilisation and a new lens that “captures more light for brighter night and sharper action shots,” apparently. Oh, and the HDR+ mode automatically snaps a rapid burst of photos and combines them to give you the best possible single shot. Sweet.

Nexus 5 is available today, unlocked and without a contract, on Google Play in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea (and coming soon to India), starting at $349.

In the US the Nexus 5 will be “available soon” at the following retailers: Sprint, T-Mobile, Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack.

Google also says that Android KitKat, will be released for the Nexus 4, 7, 10, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks.
