Dota 2: The International 2017 breaks prize pool record
Last year saw Dota 2‘s The International tournament raise $20.7-million for its prize pool, making it the richest prize in all of esports. Surely, 2017 wouldn’t see this gargantuan figure surpassed, right?
Actually, the 2017 running of the tournament has just passed the US$20.8-million mark. And the prize pool looks set to grow substantially still, because there are 31 days left in the campaign.
The prize pool for The International is generated through sales of in-game content for Dota 2. This year, players can buy a Battle Pass, which delivers new campaigns, tokens, mission types, a trivia game and more.
Twenty five percent of the proceeds from the sales of the Battle Pass will go towards The International prize pool.
The International takes place from 7-12 August 2017.
