HMD sends out invites: Nokia 8 flagship set for 16 August?
HMD Global has received plenty of praise for its Nokia-branded smartphones thus far, but it’s still got a long way to go to recapturing the glory years of the brand. Still, the company has a lot more to share, such as a press invite for a new event.
The news was reported by The Verge earlier this week, with subsequent media coverage revealing the actual invite itself. However, it’s worth noting that the invite doesn’t actually mention the Nokia 8.
“HMD invites you to an exclusive gathering to unveil the next milestone for Nokia phones,” reads the invite.
The Nokia 8 design has already been leaked though, courtesy of Venturebeat’s Evan Blass. The leaks show a phone with a dual-camera setup on the back (complete with Zeiss branding) and a fingerprint scanner flanked by two capacitive keys.

Otherwise, internal specs aren’t quite confirmed yet, but word on the street is that the phone is packing a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB or 6GB of RAM and two 13MP main cameras.
The Nokia-branded smartphones have made quite a splash among tech press, owing to claims of brisk updates and the implementation of (mostly) stock Android.
In fact, Gearburn interviewed HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela, who claimed that all current Nokia Android phones would be getting two years’ worth of updates. The CEO also shed light on their marketshare goals, without going into detail.
“Our joint aspiration with this partnership we created is that we are going to be among the top Android players in the coming three to five years.”
