5 tips from Google for the Royal Wedding

Millions of people around the world are waiting in anticipation for the big royal event in London on Friday 29 April, 2011. For those who can not be present live at the ceremony, Google provides five interesting tools that will allow fans to watch the wedding and get more information about the big day.

1. Royal wedding live on YouTube:

The entire ceremony on Friday will be live streamed in real time on http://www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel. The live stream starts at 11 clock SA time. Internet users can watch the wedding procession, the ceremony in Westminster Abbey and the newlyweds sharing a kiss on the balcony. Alongside the live stream, The Royal Channel will also feature live blog commentary of the event to give timely updates and insights as the day unfolds.

2. The wedding route in 3D:

If you like to have a look at the route that the wedding couple and their entourage will take on Friday you can do that with Google Earth: Google Earth makes the complete route available in 3D . Starting at Westminster Abbey, over to the House of Parliament, Big Ben and the Horse Guards Parade to Buckingham Palace. A video of the wedding section is of course available as well.

3. Google search trends

Google’s search trends show that, in addition to the UK and the United States, the top ten countries searching for “royal wedding” include places like Singapore and the Philippines. In addition, fans will find the top ten searches for the royal wedding on Google Insights for Search.

4. Google Translate:

The royal wedding is the No. 1 topic in media worldwide. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to read international press reports about the wedding in your language? Google’s translation tool makes it possible. Users simply enter the web address (URL) of a medium – such as http://www.bbc.co.uk/ – in the left panel of Google Translate and then click “Translate”.

5. Real-time search:

By entering the search terms “wedding prince william and kate middleton” for example on http://www.google.com/realtime you will get the latest comments from people on social networks about the topic.
