You can now pin text to Pinterest

Pin a quote

Pinterest is all about images and video — so if you run a text-heavy website, sorry, no pins for you. But someone saw the potential and developed a bookmarklet that lets you pin a cool quote to one of your Pinterest boards.

That someone is creative web strategist Adam Rotman. He recently launched Pin a Quote, which lets you highlight text on a website that you think would make a good pin. It then converts the quote to an image and shows you a preview. You can then add a description like normal and pin it to one of your boards.

Pin a Quote also remembers the source of the text, so your followers can return to the webpage where you found your quote. You can include details of who wrote the text, or leave it unattributed. The bookmarklet has only been around for a few days, but it’s already been used quite a few (hundred) times by Pinterest users.

It’s easy to install the bookmarklet — you just drag the icon to your bookmarks tab — and it works with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera and even (shudder) Internet Explorer 9.

It’s a handy option for people who want to share some text, but if you want something more artistic with the quote, you’re probably better off making friends with a designer; the text is black, grey and centre-aligned on a white background, and you can’t change the font or layout at this stage.
