Wow. Talk about swinging with your back to the ropes. Nokia just got dirty in the latest ad campaign for its Lumia 900.
The ads are supposed to be a series of insider recordings about smartphones available on the market today.
No ad to show here.
Apple’s notorious antennagate comes up gets a dressing down with one insider telling another to “Stop acting like a spoiled child and use the approved grip”. How very droll of Nokia to mock a product from 2010.
In fact, the Finnish communications giant goes all the way back to 2007 for a stab at screens looking washed-out in direct sunlight. The beta testers’ solution: “The screen is fine, people can just stay inside. The company has also chosen 30 Rock’s Dr. Leo Spaceman (Chris Parnell) as the Lumia 900’s spokesperson. As TheNextWeb points out, that might not be the greatest choice given that Parnell’s character is renowned for spouting the idiotic. Taking swings at your opposition is nothing new in the tech world. Towards the end of 2011, Samsung took on Apple’s fan base with its Galaxy SII ad and Microsoft and Google have been at each other’s throats for a little while now. While all this mud-slinging is entertaining and therefore great for audiences (and tech news sites), the companies involved don’t generally give compelling reasons for buying their products over their competitors’.
Then again, would you rather every ad offered the same kind of bland cheesiness as the ones for the Samsung Galaxy Beam?
