Footage of Zuma ‘Spear’ vandals lands on YouTube [Video]
Footage of two men charged with vandalising a painting of South African president Jacob Zuma has landed on YouTube.
The vandals, approached the controversial painting which shows Zuma’s genitalia sticking out of his pants. The first man painted red X’s over Zuma’s crotch and face on the painting, while the second smeared black paint all over it.
The second of the two men is shown being apprehended by a security guard who at one point headbutts him. South African TV news outlet eNews reports that the first suspect is a university professor.
The incident has seen South African social media users expressing shock, dismay, and paranoia.
The South African president has filed a case against the Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg, where the painting was being displayed to have the painting removed, saying that it’s disrespectful to him.
The gallery’s curator has reportedly issued a statement saying that the paint used was oil-based and that it would likely be impossible to restore the painting.
