Facebook App Centre goes live

Facebook’s App Centre has officially gone live, with around 600 apps available on the web as well through its iOS and Android apps.

In an official blog post, the social network revealed more details about the app centre, after announcing it a few weeks back.

First off, Facebook seems to be punting personalisation, saying that the centre “lets you browse the apps your friends use”. It also claims that it “only lists high-quality apps, based on feedback from people who use the app”.

Although the number of apps is limited at the moment it has some big name players on board, including Draw Something, Pinterest, and Nike+ GPS, and new apps including Jetpack Joyride, Ghosts of Mistwood, and Ghost Recon Commander.

You can also send apps you find on your computer to your mobile device using the new “Send to Mobile” feature. If a mobile app requires a download, you’ll be sent to install it from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Like every app store ever, each app in the App Centre has screenshots and a detailed description, “so you can learn more about it before installing it”.

If you’re worried about privacy, Facebook claims that it lets you choose who can see your activity on Facebook.

It also claims that the App Centre “gives developers an additional way to grow their apps and creates opportunities for more types of apps to be successful”.

At present, the App Centre is only available to US users, but will roll out to everyone in the coming weeks.
