Your newest weekly Twitter mail: People you may know

Twitter seems pretty damned determined to occupy space in your inbox. The latest weekly email from the social network will see it suggesting people you might know.

That’s it. The email is just a list of people you might like to follow. As The Next Web notes, the new feature appears to use technology from social summary tool Summify, which Twitter bought at the beginning of the year.

According to the social network:

Suggestions are based on signals like who your friends follow and the contact information imported by people you know. For example, if several people you know follow someone, you may also know them and want to follow them too. There’s no telling who you might find on Twitter, so open this weekly message for an ongoing source of great accounts to follow.

The real aim of the email, it seems, is to get more people engaging more frequently on the platform. Increased engagement means that people are more likely to see adverts, helping to push up revenue.

Earlier this year, Twitter started sending out a weekly news summary email. Like all the other emails from the social network, you do have the option not to receive the ‘people you may know’ mailer.
