Twitter releases new Android app, updates mobile web and iOS versions
Twitter has released a new version of its Android app as well updates to its iOS and mobile web versions.
In an official blog post, the social network says that the new Android version is designed to “reflect a native Android experience”.
It has achieved this, it says, with wider and taller timelines that fill the screen, a flat navigation bar and tap and hold functionality for quick actions. You can now, for instance, navigate between tabs by swiping across your screen, something that’s been a feature of the Windows Phone 8 app for a while now.
You’ll also get username and hashtag suggestions when you start searching or typing a tweet, something that Twitter reckons makes it easier to connect with friends and join conversations.
The iOS and mobile web updates meanwhile mean you can now see more types of content in expanded tweets: photo galleries, apps and product listings. You’ll also now be able to download, or link straight to, an app from a tweet as part of the deep-linking in Twitter’s card function.
According to Twitter, the updates will roll out over the next few days. The changes aren’t dramatic enough to cause the average user any panic, while more tech-savvy users may be a little concerned with the font and design alterations.
