Foursquare takes aim at feature phone market with new Nokia S40 app
This is interesting. Location-based social outfit Foursquare has launched a version of its app for Nokia Series 40 phones, suggesting that it’s looking to up its presence in emerging market countries.
The app, announced in an official blog post works for the full range of the Finnish manufacturer’s feature phones, including the new range of Asha phones.
The new app could potentially help the Foursquare attract millions of new users around the world, especially in emerging market countries where feature phones still significantly outnumber smartphones.
And despite its waning overall fortunes, Nokia still makes a large percentage of feature phones sold around the globe. In fact, last year the company said it sold 1.5-billion S40 phones globally.
“Hundreds of millions of people around the world use Nokia S40 phones, and now they’ll all have access to Foursquare,” the company says in the post.
It adds that the app will be preloaded globally on the new range of Asha devices when they go on sale in a few months.
