iOS7 hits 74% adoption, making it the fastest update in Apple history
It looks like iFans seriously love an update and they love iOS7 the most so far. According to online advertising network Chitika, a whopping 74.1% of iPhone owners have installed the mobile OS with iPad owners lagging slightly behind at 63.8%.
According to the company, this makes it very likely that iOS 7 will continue to substantially outpace iOS 6 adoption. The previous iteration of Apple’s mobile OS was being used by 83% of iDevice owners close to six months following its release in September 2012.
On the iPad front, it’s interesting to note how much larger the percentage of users still operating on iOS6 is. Chitika posits that one of the reasons iPad users are slower to upgrade is that there’s less incentive for them do so. One example, it says, of this is features like AirDrop not coming to the iPad 2 or 3.
“While still-active legacy devices make it unlikely for iOS 7 adoption to substantially surpass the nearly 90% adoption rate of iOS 6,” the company says, “the latest operating system will likely reach that point in a much quicker timeframe than its forerunner”.
Chitika arrived at its figures by analysing tens of millions of impression on its ad network. It should be noted however that this method of measurement is bound to produce some margin for error.
