Trawled the malls and frequented the florists looking for the perfect gift for your Valentine but come up empty-handed? Google’s latest doodle can help you out.

If you head over to the Google homepage today, you’ll be able to customise a heart-shaped box full of confectionery for your beloved. The search giant has gone with an interactive doodle this year, which allows you to pick between different romantic food items (and, for some reason, a bug and some salt) and combine them to create three different sweet variants.
You simply use the up and down arrows to select your layers of edible goodness, then complete the concoction by using the right arrow to move the creations into the tin.
Once you’re done, Google will generate a unique URL for your gift, which you can then copy directly or send to your loved one via Facebook, Twitter or Google+. They’ll then be greeted with a customised Google home page with the closed tin, which when opened, will allow them to analyse the contents of the package you’ve lovingly prepared for them.
It’s a departure from last year’s Valentine’s Day doodle, which Google also used to celebrate the birthday of the creator of the Ferris wheel with some cartoon characters. This one is largely animal-free though — unless you count that sneaky insect.
