Hey kids, the FBI is hip to your acronyms
Your gran might not understand all the wacky acronyms you use online, but apparently the FBI does. In fact, the US-based law enforcement organisation has a list of around 2 800 acronyms that people use online.
As well as the standard acronyms that most of us use on a daily basis (LOL, ROFL), the list contains slightly more bizarre entries such as YTP (YouTube Poop) and WYLASOMWTC (Would you like a saucer of milk with that comment?).
Interestingly, each of page of the list (obtained by an organisation called Muckrock) was put together by the bureau’s Intelligence Research Support Unit and is described as being useful for work.
In a surprisingly cute addition, it also describes the list as being useful for “keeping up with your children and/or grandchildren.”
As The Verge notes however, the document doesn’t exactly seem all that up to date. A troll for instance, is described as deliberately provocative user on a “message board”.
