Can you fight climate change with hacking? 3K+ people want to find out

People around the globe are doing all sorts of things to combat climate change, from making changes to their own lives to lobbying their governments to make fundamental policy shifts. Later this month though, more than 3 000 people will gather in 40 plus cities around the world to try and hack ways to combat it.

Geeklist’s #Hack4Good 0.6 will take place from 12-14 September and will reportedly see software engineers, hackers, UI/UX designers, product makers, founders, thought leaders and civic-minded organisations building prototypes of technology solutions that address 15 global climate change challenges.

The hackathon will aim to address, or at least respond to, 15 specific challenges set by Challenge Partners including NGOs, government organisations and subject matter experts.

In each of the challenge locations, a judging panel made up of technology leaders and subject matter experts will select the most promising teams in terms of their potential impact. These will then be submitted to the global judging panel with the best projects going forward to present their projects as part of Climate Week NYC alongside the UN Climate Summit in New York in September.

In Africa, events will be held in Abuja, Nigeria; Tunis, Tunisia; Lusaka, Zambia; and Nairobi, Kenya.
