Social Media, that untamable beast, has served up some gems. This year hashtags have been causing far more social change than ever before. It appears, if anything is to be learned from hashtags this year, that they have the power to start revolutions. And with the likes of Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter growing steadily, that doesn’t seem likely to change.
The tech world has also stooped to frivolously low levels and was abuzz about Kim Kardashian’s hind quarters.
Big Data was also more defined this year with companies taking full advantage of the new great access to information, connecting it to real results.
In the agency space, it was acquisition after acquisition. This is also the year that Kalahari, a giant in the ecommerce space, merged with another giant, Takealot.
On the hardware front, the phablet made a bold claim in 2014 by converting many non-believers. And as per tradition, Apple launched a new iPhone, or two of them, actually.
