2016 will bring an Assassin’s Creed movie

Assassin’s Creed, one of the world’s most successful gaming franchises, is set to get its own film in 2016.

Produced by 20th Century Fox, the film is back on track after a couple of delays and is currently slated to hit cinemas toward the end of next year. Starring Michael Fassbender, the film was originally meant to be released later this year but was pushed back. It will be directed by Justin Kurzel.

The Assassin’s Creed announcement came alongside a few other pieces of news from the studio, including an update around the upcoming M-Men spinoff Gambit.

Channing Tatum will star as the titular card-playing mutant, replacing Canadian actor Taylor Kitsch, who played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Other movies that got re-jigged release dates were the next installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise (from 29 July 2016 to 14 July 2017) and Fantastic Four 2 which has been bumped up to a 2 June 2017 release from a 14 July 2017 one.
