Spider-Man is finally swinging his way onto the Marvel stage
Sony Pictures and Marvel today announced a deal that will see Spider-Man finally swing and crawl alongside the popular superheroes we’ve grown so fond of on screen. Red tights and all.
Due to creative ownership over the Spider-Man franchise, Sony Pictures has always had exclusive rights over the character. This meant that we’ve seen an awkward progression in Marvel’s movie franchise which excluded Peter Parker from the universe, which is unlike the comic book and game series where Spider-Man plays a massive role.
Though the quality is debatable, Spider-Man is Sony Pictures’ most successful franchise which, of the five films, has been responsible for US$4-billion.

The deal states that Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe after which Sony will release its next installment of the Spider-Man franchise which Marvel will collaborate on.
“Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films,” they state in the announcement.
A few months ago, Marvel announced nine new movies 9 new movies with new characters like Black Panther, Doctor Strange and the Inhumans set to make their movie debuts within the next decade.
The third title of Captain America’s Civil War, which is planned for May 2016, originally features Captain America, Iron Man and Spider-Man. So that’s where we’re putting our money to see the web swinger’s first appearance alongside the rest of the Avengers squad.
“Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker’s story into the future,” says Doug Belgrad who’s the president of Sony Pictures.
