UberASSIST: raise cash for kids while you ride
Uber South Africa has just announced that it is embarking, in partnership with Reach For A Dream, on its first national assist campaign to help fulfill the dreams of children faced with a life-threatening illness.
Reach For A Dream takes care of children between the ages of three and 18-years-old with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer and leukemia, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, renal failure and various blood disorders.

For the next three months, Uber South Africa says, the company will donate a percentage of fares to the Reach For A Dream Foundation. Uber will do this by rounding ride fares down to the nearest rand and donate a percentage of the difference. The company stresses that its drivers will not be affected by this and will still earn 80 % of the total fare.
The ethos here is simple: you ride an Uber and you donate money.
“These small amounts donated from each rider’s trip, although a few cents here and there, when combined with riders across the country become a significant contribution in helping improve these childrens’ lives,” Uber said.
