Your Twitter feed will start autoplaying videos in the near future
Your Twitter timeline is about to hog a lot more data. The social network is rolling out video autoplay as a standard feature.
First to get the new feature are Twitter for the web and iOS. And the way it works is pretty simple: as soon as you scroll down to a tweet with a native video, Vine and GIF embedded, the content will begin to play back automatically.
Fortunately, for your ears at least, there won’t be any sound when that content starts playing.
Once you tap the video, sound will turn on and the video will continue to play in an expanded view. If you turn the video to landscape mode, the sound will automatically turn on and the video will expand to fill the screen.
If you live in a country where data is expensive, you may want to revert to the previous “click-to-play” settings or set autoplay to only come only when you have WiFi reception.
In order to do so, click on your profile picture, scroll down to settings, and check the relevant boxes in the content section.
Twitter also says that if you have low bandwidth on your device, it’ll opt you out of autoplay to avoid unexpected charges or slow performance; so you’ll continue to see videos as click-to-play.
Here’s what autoplay will look like when it goes live.
