Twitter to roll out polls to everyone

Twitter on Wednesday announced that it would be rolling out the ability to create polls to all its users.

The new feature allows people to create simple two-option polls on the fly, adding to Twitter’s capabilities as a platform for information-gathering.

“Previously,” says Twitter product manager Todd Sherman, “we’ve offered a few ways to participate in polls — Tweeting questions and tracking replies, tallying hashtag votes, or asking followers to favorite or Retweet to vote. Now, you’ll be able to create your own two-choice poll right from the compose box and it will remain live for 24 hours. You can vote on any poll, and how you voted is not shared publicly”.

The new feature is just the latest to be introduced in the wake of founder Jack Dorsey confirming that he would be permanently returning to the company. Shortly after making that confirmation, Dorsey announced the company would be shedding around eight percent of of its staff in a bid to operate in a leaner, more efficient fashion.

Over the next few days, Twitter says it’ll be rolling out the ability to create polls on iOS, Android, and on desktop at twitter.com. Once you see the poll icon shown above in the compose box, you’ll be able to create your own poll.
