Google Play Movies officially available on South African screens
Hot on the heels of Google Music’s South African bow, Google has now announced that Google Play Movies is available in the country.
The service will allow users to “to rent or purchase movies for watching on their phones, tablets, computers and smart TVs,” explains the press release.
It’s not quite a streaming service however, and it doesn’t offer any series at launch. There’s also a massive hole left by the lack of local South African content, but Google SA “hopes to make these available soon.”

The service does however offer Hollywood blockbusters and older classics, so Terminator, Marvel and Nicolas Sparks fans should be happy.
Renting content starts at R20. The service will allow users to keep rented movies for 30 days, but only allow the user two days to watch it from the moment the play button’s hit. The option to permanently purchase content is also available.
The service is available on Android, iOS, on the web and on smart TVs, Android TV or Chromecast.
