After a successful debut event at the V&A Waterfront last year, the Cape Town Mini Maker Faire is returning to the city this weekend.
The organisers of the Faire are promising “an even bigger and better event this year”, which kicks off on Friday at the Cape Town Science Centre in Observatory.

The event is part of the global Maker Faire network, and is “a space where people with a passion for learning, collaboration and creativity can connect”, the press release suggests.
“Part science fair, part trade fair, and part something entirely new, the event offers a great day out for people of all ages to interact with amazing creations and experience the exciting world of the Makers.”
Over 60 exhibitors will show off their wares at the Cape Town Mini Maker Faire in Observatory this weekend
Programme director and producer of Cape Town Mini Maker Faire, Alayne Reesberg suggests that those exhibiting at the Faire are finding “innovative solutions to help solve social problems”.
Leading on from World Design Capital, we wanted to continue demonstrating and celebrating all of these wonderful projects, allowing people to meet the Makers and learn from them. We enjoy seeing this spark conversations and further action around the Maker Movement in Cape Town.
The Faire will also boast over 60 exhibitors whose wares, creations and ideas will be on show. This will include creations from the likes of Stellenbosch University’s Launch Lab, the Cape Innovation and Technology Institute and the University of the Western Cape.
