Weekend News in Tweets: Trump remains bullish, Thuli bids adieu
News moves at the speed of social media in today’s world, and that’s especially the case on the weekend. Take a look at the world news you might’ve missed this weekend through the 140-character lens of Twitter (with a splash of Instagram and Facebook for good measure).
Welcome to the Weekend News in Tweets (14 October – 15 October 2016).
World news: Trump battles latest scandal on Twitter
Donald Trump was in the news for a number of different reasons this weekend, but the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him took centre stage. Summer Zervos, a former contestant on The Apprentice, was the latest to reveal Trump’s advances towards her. Following the allegations, Trump took to Twitter to brush them off.
Nothing ever happened with any of these women. Totally made up nonsense to steal the election. Nobody has more respect for women than me!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 15, 2016
Trump also claimed that the allegations were all in attempts to bring down his campaign. He also blamed the media, namely the New York Times.
The failing @nytimes reporters don’t even call us anymore, they just write whatever they want to write, making up sources along the way!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 15, 2016
Polls close, but can you believe I lost large numbers of women voters based on made up events THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Media rigging election!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 16, 2016
Election is being rigged by the media, in a coordinated effort with the Clinton campaign, by putting stories that never happened into news!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 16, 2016
And finally, even Alec Baldwin and SNL wasn’t exempt from the Trump Twitter rants this weekend.
Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me.Time to retire the boring and unfunny show. Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!

This weekend, President Jacob Zuma attended the eighth BRICS Summit in Goa, India. While the biggest news was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks regarding Pakistan — calling the state the “mothership of terror” — all eyes, at least in South Africa, were seemingly on Zuma.
