With March comes the inevitable “can you believe it’s March already?” small talk, and sometimes it’s best just to avoid social interactions all together. So if you’re looking to steer clear of conversations about the unstoppable marching of time towards an end we cannot begin to understand, Netflix has you sorted.
We’ve sifted through the Netflix website to find you the best content coming straight to South African devices this month.

Still living in February? Catch up with last month’s roundup right here.
3 March: Greenleaf
The month kicks off as Greenleaf’s 13-episode first season arrives to the service.
From executive producers Oprah Winfrey (who also stars) and Craig Wright, the show unveils the dark underbelly of a megachurch in Tennessee, USA.
“Although members of the Greenleaf family run a Memphis megachurch, their business and personal lives are tainted with greed, adultery and other sins,” reads the synopsis.
10 March: Burning Sands
The following Friday brings original film Burning Sands.
“Deep into a fraternity’s Hell Week, a favored pledge is torn between honoring a code of silence or standing up against the intensifying violence of underground hazing,” reads the description.
The film had its premiere at Sundance film festival in January, and has an 8/10 rating on iMDB.
March will see the likes of Marvel’s Iron First and Oprah Winfrey’s Greenleaf heading to Netflix South Africa
Also being released on 10 March is Buddy Thunderstruck, a kids’ cartoon from the creators of none other than Care Bears and Chicken Run.
“Buddy Thunderstruck is an action–comedy, stop–motion extravaganza that follows the adventures of a semi–truck racing dog named Buddy and his albino ferret mechanic. It all goes down in race–obsessed Greasepit, a place chock full of larger–than–life characters and nitro–burning, gear–slamming, tire–squealing, fish–tailing good times,” Netflix writes.
17 March: Marvel’s Iron Fist
Netflix’s big release in March is Marvel’s Iron Fist — the last standalone series before Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist meet up in The Defenders.
Starring Game of Thrones‘ Finn Jones, the 10-episode season is sure to create waves across all social spheres.
“Billionaire Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist,” reads the synopsis.
Just as important is the arrival of Julie’s Greenroom on the same day. Julie Andrews stars in this children’s show that teaches kids the art of performance.
“Julie’s Greenroom is an all-new arts educational show for the very young starring the legendary Julie Andrews and brought to life by the ingenious minds at Jim Henson Studios. Seven young friends learn all about the arts (dance, singing, performing, painting, and more) from Julie herself and unique guest stars (Idina Menzel, Alec Baldwin, David Hyde Pierce) in each episode,” reads the description.
24 March: Ingobernable
Mexican series Ingobernable is released on the second last Friday of the month.
“Emilia Urquiza (Kate del Castillo), is the first lady of Mexico with big plans to improve conditions for the country through her commitment in fighting for peace. She is a woman with a strong personality, conviction and clear ideas that make her capable of doing anything. As Emilia starts to lose faith in her husband, Diego Nava (Erik Hayser), she finds herself at a crossroad where she will need to find a way to deal with a great challenge and uncover the truth.”
Also released on that day is The Most Hated Woman in America, a true crime biopic that follows the life and death of Madalyn Murray O’Hair — an atheist activist who fought for readings of the Bible to be precluded from US schools.
“The true story of Madalyn Murray O’Hair — iconoclast, opportunist, and outspoken atheist — from her controversial rise to her untimely demise,” the description reads.
31 March: 13 Reasons Why
On the last weekend of the month, young adult murder mystery 13 Reasons Why makes its way onto the service.
“Based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why follows teenager Clay Jensen as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will Clay be one of them? If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list. Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, 13 Reasons Why weaves an intricate and heart wrenching story of teenage life that will deeply affect viewers.”
Another children’s show arrives on Netflix on the 31st too, and this time it’s Dinotrux — set in a world in which hybrid truck dinosaurs exist. The show was created by Dreamworks, and something tells me you won’t need to be a kid to enjoy this one.
A total of 52 episodes from four seasons will be released.
And finally, The Discovery (starring Jason Segel) is the last film coming to your screens in March. This Netflix original film tells the story of a world in which the afterlife is scientifically verified, resulting in millions of suicides across the globe.
