Trevor Noah bags MTV Movie & TV Award as Daily Show host, thanks Trump
Trevor Noah won the Best Host award at the newly rebranded MTV Movie and TV Awards in Los Angeles this weekend.
The comedian, now known as the face of The Daily Show after taking over from Jon Stewart in 2015, was up against the likes of cultural heavyweights Ellen DeGeneres and John Oliver.
“Thank you thank you thank you thank you. Wow,” Noah later commented on Instagram, after he was handed the award by Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart.
He also thanked Donald Trump at the ceremony.
“Thank you to Donald J. Trump for the comedy,” he quipped.
“The J stands for Jesus, a lot of people don’t know that.”
Although he’s previously been nominated for awards as host of The Daily Show, this is his first win.
Alongside Trevor Noah, Emma Watson also claimed the award show’s first gender-neutral Best Actor Award
Beyond Noah though, the rebranded awards also celebrated the likes of Emma Watson, who won the gender-neutral Best Actor Award for her role as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. The movie also won Movie of the Year.
Show of the Year was won by Stranger Things.
The Fast and The Furious franchise took home the Generation award, which was received by the series’ stalwarts — Vin Diesel, Jordanna Brewster, Michelle Rodriquez and Tyrese Gibson.
Finally, Hidden Figures won the New Award.
