After teasing her new album on Instagram earlier this week, singer-songwriter Kesha has finally released her new track to YouTube.
And it’s going viral.
No ad to show here.
Dubbed “Praying”, the track is the first off her upcoming album Rainbow, set to be her first released in close to five years.
“Praying” might be a little slower and more melodic than Kesha’s previous records, but the subject matter is markedly more serious than the likes of “Timber” or “Your Love is My Drug”.
In “Praying”, Kesha sings:
Well, you almost had me fooled
Told me that I was nothing without you
Oh, but after everything you’ve done
I can thank you for how strong I have become
She doesn’t mention the addressee by name, but she’s likely referencing her emotional and legal battle with former producer Dr. Luke.
Incidentally, “Praying” is co-written by Ryan Lewis of “Thrift Shop” fame and Australian folk singer Ben Abraham.
‘I just listened to Kesha’s new song Praying and I’m speechless’
The YouTube video itself is dark, filled with hues and high contrasts. It’s gorgeous, and has already amassed around 240 000 pageviews in just over two hours. We’ll likely see the video on YouTube’s top trending list by this evening.
Twitter’s also loving the new single.
“I just listened to Kesha’s new song Praying and I’m speechless. My heart feels heavy. She’s back, stronger than ever before!” reads one tweet.
