The 92nd edition of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade may have been the coldest on record, but that’s only until everyone’s favourite super saiyan took to the skies.
Goku (or Kakarot if you’re his edgy brother or everyone’s favourite meme star), regarded by many as the best manga character, made his first appearance at the balloon parade which usually features pop culture stalwarts like Charlie Brown and Ronald McDonald.

But on Thursday morning, the character took to the skies above New York in the form of a 22m long, 12m wide balloon. He was easily the largest floating alien on display.
More than 90 handlers were used to guide the balloon through the streets of the Big Apple, while the blue hair is symbolic of a new super saiyan form.
Notably, he was the first character from an anime or manga to be featured in the parade too. And Twitter loved it.
The #MacysParade #Goku balloon was incredible!
Glad I tuned in to see him… even after all the commercials. #gokutakesnyc #ThanksGoku pic.twitter.com/kKZX6nQu2W — Lady Zamasu (@LadyZamasuYT) November 22, 2018
Never thought I would see this on my TV. Started watching Dragonball Z in the early 90’s and so happy to see all of the success, for the creator (Toriyama), the artists, and all of the great voice actors and actresses (American and Japanese) #Goku #GokuTakesNYC pic.twitter.com/dOBQgLdK3V

We can’t imagine that Vegeta was too thrilled though.
Goku’s appearance also comes just over a month before Dragon Ball Super: Broly, an animated feature film, makes its debut in the States.
