Netflix on Wednesday announced that it will be producing an animated musical movie version of Thelma the Unicorn, the best selling children’s novel by Aaron Blabey.
The musical will follow the story of a pony who wants to be a unicorn and discovers that there’s a price attached to getting what you wish for.

“I’m beyond excited that my beautiful phoney Unicorn is going to sparkle her way onto the screen in a big, glittery Netflix film,” the author said.
Blabey will join the production team as executive producer alongside Patrick Hughes, while the movie will be directed and written by Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess of Napoleon Dynamite fame.
“Thelma the Unicorn is a joyful story about learning to love who you are… even if you don’t have sparkles,” Netflix said in a statement.
Netflix has not yet revealed when Thelma the Unicorn will debut, but it joins this week’s announcement of an upcoming Jurassic World-based animated series, as well as a Magic: The Gathering animation too.
