Netflix on Tuesday announced that it has removed the suicide scene in the first season of 13 Reasons Why, which depicts main character Hannah Baker taking her own life in explicit detail.
“As we prepare to launch Season 3 later this summer, we’ve been mindful about the ongoing debate around the show,” the company said in a tweet.

According to the company, the decision comes after talks with suicide prevention experts.
The scene in question shows Hannah Baker slitting her own wrists and bleeding out in a bath tub, before her parents find her.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the edited scene now shows the moments before Hannah commits the act, and then cuts to her parents discovering her body.
“No one scene is more important than the life of the show, and its message that we must take better care of each other. We believe this edit will help the show do the most good for the most people while mitigating any risk for especially vulnerable young viewers,” show creator Brian Yorkey told the publication.
13 Reasons Why Season 3 will premiere on Netflix towards the end of 2019.
