Endgame, with a slim margin, holds the top spot with $2.79-billion, according to data from BoxOfficeMojo.

It’s been a long time coming too. Endgame was released at the end of April, enjoying an abnormally long lifespan as a blockbuster movie.

Avengers: Endgame fell well short of $3bn worldwide, but nontheless claims the title of biggest movie in history

Within days of its debut though, it broke South African and global records, and surpassed Titanic as the second biggest movie ever.

Considering that it was Titanic that held the crown for more than 12 years, and Avatar a decade, we could be in for a long wait before Avengers: Endgame is knocked off its perch.

Marvel Studios’ this weekend also rolled out its plans for the Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase, so don’t be surprised to see another Marvel flick competing with Endgame in the coming years.
