Believe it or not, some parts of the world still criminalise the LGBTQ+ community. Luckily, Tinder on Wednesday announced a solution to protect its users from laws that try to govern who or how they love.
According to a report by TechCrunch, a new Tinder update called “Traveler Alert” will now help keep users who enter countries with anti-LGBTQ+ laws safe.

“The purpose of this is to protect users who could be persecuted for their identity in these countries,” a spokesperson told the publication.
Traveler Alert will prevent a user’s account from being visible based on their location, if the user wishes to be visible, Tinder will not display sexual orientation or gender idenitity.
The update will also warn users when they are in a country with these discriminatory laws.
“Please proceed with caution and take extra care when making new matches,” the safety update also warns.
Though the new update is commendable, it is unforunate that we live in a world where such measures are neccessary to keep people safe from bias.
