Twitter was down worldwide after ‘internal configuration change’ last night

Social media tables turned on Thursday evening when Twitter — not Facebook — went down for a few hours around the world.

“We are currently investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter. We will keep you updated on whats happening,” Twitter reported on its status page at around 9pm SAST.

An hour later, the company confirmed that the outage was “due to an internal configuration change” and, eventually, Twitter went back online.

Rather fond of poking fun at Facebook users when its platforms go down from time to time, Twitter users didn’t hold back with #twitterdown when it came to their own outage.

Even Twitter itself saw the funny side.

“Miss us”, the company asked in a tweet.

It’s safe to say the Twitter community was relieved the outage didn’t last too long.
