Disney’s The Lion King sailed through the R100-million mark this weekend after six weeks atop the South African Box Office.
Since its release in July, the movie has now made over R101-million locally.

Internationally, The Lion King is now the ninth biggest movie in history, eclipsing its two Disney stable mates, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther. It’s made just over $1.5-billion at the time of writing.
The CG remake now joins Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as the biggest movies in local box office history.
“Walt Disney Studios releases now account for the top four films of all time at the South African Box Office,” Disney noted in a release.
With a few more big titles like Frozen 2 on its way this festive season, Disney has certainly set its box office bar very high.
