#DearMrPresident: SA calls for Cyril Ramaphosa’s response against gender-based violence

#DearMrPresident

South Africa’s outrage following the rape and murder of Uyinene Mrwetyana continued into Tuesday morning with several more hashtags calling for action against gender-based violence in the country. In addition to Monday’s #AmINext, #SAShutDown and #EnoughIsEnough, citizens further addressed President Cyril Ramaphosa directly through #DearMrPresident on Twitter.

“I am scared. I am hopeless. I am seriously seriously sad,” wrote one user.

“Your silence is too loud,” wrote another.

With an increasing number of missing women in the country and the mounting unrest following looting in Pretoria and Johannesburg, South Africans are angry and scared.

Despite the tweets and posts across social media platforms, the leader of the country remains silent.
