Queen of the North Sophie Turner took some time out this week to poke fun and criticise influencers on Instagram.
The Game of Thrones and Dark Phoenix actress posted an Instagram Story on Tuesday, which has social media users giggling and influencers (probably) seething.
No ad to show here.
Using a filter that gives her super red cheeks and large red lips, Turner employs her “influencer voice” to fake-promote a product.
“Today I just wanted to promote this new powdered stuff that you put in your teeth,” she begins.
“…basically it makes you shit your brains out and is totally really bad for me to be promoting to young women.”

The parody clip pokes fun at social media influencers and their perceived lifestyles, perhaps more prominent on Instagram, that promote products that aren’t necessarily beneficial but prey on users’ insecurities.
You know, that “influencer life” as Turner puts it.
Social media, influencer culture and money matters
Criticism of social media on users’ health has come under the spotlight in recent months. Instagram, too, has been trying to address these problems, hiding like counts from users and even ditching its following tab earlier this week.
It also clamped down on promoting “miraculous” weight-loss products on its platform beginning in September.
Even so, it seems that celebrities like Turner, and perhaps more vocally Jameela Jamil, remain critical of the brand of marketing that social networks breed.
