Vodacom is giving smartphone buyers on prepaid another way to pay for their smartphones.
The mobile network on Monday announced that eligible buyers can now choose to purchase phones over 12 months, instead of making a large, immediate payment.

It believes the new offer will drive “financial and digital inclusion” in South Africa.
Customers are required to pay a 10% deposit on their smartphone, priced between R799 and R2999. They’ll then be required to pay the rest, interest free, over the following 12 months.
The company will determine who is eligible based on their airtime and data spend, as well as their length of time spent as a Vodacom customer.
However, no flagship phones are currently available through the offer.
Users have an initial choice between a few low-end 4G-enabled Samsung devices, namely the Galaxy J4, Galaxy A1 and Galaxy A2.
Vodacom does not that the offer will extend to other devices “in time”.
The company earlier this month announced its cheapest 4G phone, the Vodacom Vibe 4G, a device that it believes will also help speed up digital inclusion in the country.
