Google Maps is one step closer to becoming a true social network

Google Maps profiles

A report by Android Police this weekend revealed that Google Maps now allows users to manage their public profiles on the platform.

This means that Maps users can now edit their names and add a bio on the service where it previously only displayed their Local Guides points obtained from leaving reviews on restaurants and other places.

According to screenshots posted by the publication, the new feature can be found under “Your profile” in the Google Maps side menu.

From there, users can also update their profile photo and control the app’s personalisation settings as well.

According to Google, however, any changes on Maps will be “reflected across all Google products that you use”.

The new features are currently rolling out on Google Maps’ latest update for Android.

In October, the company also launched new road incident report categories on Maps too.
