Google pedals South Africa
Google have released new footage of their Street View trikes capturing images of key parts of South Africa, including recently completed Fifa World Cup stadium, Moses Mabhida in Durban.
Google Street View trikes arrived in the country in November last year, when they started collecting imagery of historic landmarks, heritage sites, scenic panoramas and sports venues.
The search engine giant teamed up with South African tourism authorities to compile a list of 20 special locations on which the public voted. As a result, their Street View team has been visiting the places from Soweto to Kruger National Park, and from Blyde River Canyon to the Kirstenbosch Gardens.
Google claim their trikers have been “met with excitement” from those they’ve crossed paths with along the way. The latest destinations the three-wheelers have visited include some of the new World Cup football stadiums. You can see the Trike in action at the brand new Moses Mabhida Stadium on You Tube.
After all the images have been collected and processed, Google say they will be able to show off a full spectrum of South Africa’s urban and outdoor landscapes to people around the world via Google Maps and Street View.
