Check out Apple’s iPhone 5 event without installing QuickTime
Tech anoraks love being able to watch video streams of product launches, dissecting them in the minutest detail. Most of the big companies now do it live, with Apple being the notable exception.
Whatever their reasons, the good people at Number One Infinite Loop tend to hold back on releasing the video until a few hours after the actual event. Yesterday’s iPhone 5 launch is now up and available to anyone with “Safari 4 or 5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion, Safari on iOS 3 or later, or QuickTime 7 on Windows.”
Reading those words are enough to get any PC user muttering oaths to the devil. There is however another way, that doesn’t involve using the vile QuickTime.
Just right-click on the URL in Chrome and select “save link as”.
The Next Web reckons you should then be able to open the video in your favourite media player. We could only get it to work on VLC however, after trying to play it on Media Player Classic and Media Player.
