Ex Google China chief Kaifu Lee invites 30m weibo fans to join him on Twitter
Never one to shy away from controversy, former Google China head Kaifu Lee has called upon his 30-million Sina Weibo followers to join him on Twitter.
Lee was recently banned both from Sina Weibo and Tencent Weibo for three days. While it’s unclear precisely why he was banned, it’s likely that the orders to do so came from Chinese authorities.
The former Google chairman took to Twitter, saying “I’ve been blocked from Sina and Tencent Weibo for three days; you can find me here [on Twitter].”
Given that Twitter is banned in China it’s unlikely that many of his followers will join him on the social network.
As Tech in Asia notes Lee has been in trouble with Chinese authorities in the past. Just last month, he reported that he’d been questioned by police for supporting an outspoken newspaper in the country.
He was also vocal in his objection to the temporary blocking of social programming site Github in the China.
It is interesting to note however that were all of Lee’s Sina Weibo followers to join him on Twitter, he would instantly become one of the social network’s most followed people, breathing in the same rarefied air as Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.
